Smart Lock Factory Reset and Code Basics

1 min read

Reviewed October 2026. Smart-lock reset and code steps depend on the exact Kwikset model, firmware and installation. The original factory code and button sequence in an older document may not apply to your lock.

Use the exact manual

Find the model number on the lock, packaging or manufacturer's manual. Follow the current Kwikset instructions for factory reset, programming code, adding users and deleting codes. A factory reset can remove existing codes and settings.

Secure the home

Keep programming codes private, test the lock with the door open, keep a physical key or backup access method and confirm the deadbolt is aligned before closing the door. Do not publish or share active access codes.

If the lock fails or the manual conflicts with the device, contact the manufacturer or a qualified locksmith. This article is general information, not a guarantee for any model.
