Furnace Maintenance Before Calgary Winter

Reviewed October 2026. Replace the furnace filter with the correct size and type according to the manufacturer's instructions. Check it regularly during heavy use.

Safe operation

Keep the furnace area clear. Have a qualified technician inspect fuel-burning equipment when needed, especially if there is unusual noise, poor heating, a gas smell, a damaged vent or an alarm.

Carbon monoxide

Install and test carbon-monoxide alarms as required for the home and follow the alarm manufacturer's placement and replacement instructions. Keep exterior vents clear after snowfall. If an alarm sounds, leave the home and call emergency services from outside.

Other systems

Duct cleaning, humidifier maintenance and thermostat upgrades depend on the equipment and home. Do not promise a fixed cleaning interval or indoor temperature without a professional assessment.
