Calgary Home Winter Preparation: Humidity and Safety
Reviewed October 2026. Winter preparation should address water, heat, ventilation, humidity and safety alarms.
Adjust humidity by observation
Outdoor temperature tables are only starting points. Use a hygrometer and watch for condensation, frost, mould or water on windows and frames. Reduce humidity and improve ventilation when those warning signs appear.
Keep safety systems working
Test smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms and replace them according to the manufacturer's instructions. Keep furnace and water-heater vents clear of snow and ice.
This article is general home-maintenance information. Follow product instructions and use qualified professionals for gas, electrical, plumbing and structural work.
